Refret Service | Professional Guitar Refretting
Restore the Feel of Your Guitar
When frets become too worn for a level and crown, a full refret is the best way to bring your guitar back to life.
At British Audio, we provide professional refret service for players who want their instrument to play cleanly, feel consistent, and perform at a high level again. Whether your guitar has heavy fret wear, buzzing, or uneven playability, we’ll evaluate it and recommend the right solution.
What Is a Refret?
A refret involves removing the original frets and installing a completely new set, followed by precision leveling, crowning, and polishing.
This is one of the most detail-sensitive services we offer. Done correctly, it restores accuracy, feel, and long-term reliability across the entire neck.
Signs Your Guitar May Need a Refret
-
Deep grooves or flat spots in the frets
-
Buzzing or notes choking out
-
Intonation issues caused by worn frets
-
Frets too low for proper leveling
-
Uneven feel across the fretboard
-
Setup no longer improves playability
Our Refret Process
Each instrument is evaluated individually before work begins. Depending on the guitar, refret service may include:
-
Removal of worn frets
-
Fingerboard preparation and cleanup
-
Installation of new frets (nickel or stainless)
-
Precision leveling, crowning, and polishing
-
Fingerboard conditioning
-
Neck adjustment
-
Full setup and final play test
If additional work is needed—such as nut replacement, fretboard repair, or finish touch-up—we’ll review that with you before proceeding.
Refret Pricing
Refrets are quoted based on the instrument and complexity.
Typical starting ranges:
-
Nickel silver refret: starting at $600+
-
Stainless steel refret: starting at $750+
-
Bound fretboards, maple necks, vintage instruments: quoted individually
Every guitar is different. Final pricing depends on construction, condition, and any additional work required to complete the job properly.
Evaluation Required
An $80 bench fee is required at drop-off to evaluate fret condition and determine the appropriate service.
This fee is applied toward the final repair if approved.
Is a Refret Worth It?
In many cases, absolutely.
A proper refret can completely transform a guitar that feels worn out or difficult to play. If your instrument still has life left in it, a refret is often the best long-term investment.
If a level and crown is the better option, we’ll tell you. We don’t recommend a refret unless it’s truly needed.
Why Choose British Audio?
Located in Nashville, British Audio is trusted by working musicians and serious players for high-quality repair work and honest evaluation.
We approach refrets the same way we approach every job—focused, precise, and built around long-term performance.
